Hill Country SUN

About Us

As we write this, we realize we could not be more blessed. Looking out the window, we see a full moon lighting up the backyard with a few deer scattered around.

With us in our new home in Dripping Springs are our sweet daughter, Mackenzie, who is 4 1/2, and little Luke, 3 years old.

This peaceful, quiet moment makes us stop and recognize the great changes that have taken place in our lives in the past few months.

Julie is back home after living in Houston for the past 15 years. She grew up in South Austin, in a family she could not be more proud of. She moved to Houston after graduating from Southwest Texas State University and went to work for the Houston Chronicle for 10 years in Advertising Sales.

We met during that time, got married, and when our babies came along a little later we decided it was most important for Julie to be home with them.

We discovered the hours of a full-time job were nothing compared to being a full-time mommy. But Julie wouldn't trade those days for anything.

Our family and friends have always surrounded us with love and support, and as we begin this new journey in our lives, that love and support just continues to amaze us.

We are so fortunate to have also found that in Allan and Madonna and the Hill Country Sun. They are two incredible people who created a unique magazine.

We first started talking about owning our own business in May of this year. That was a big step for Ralph who lived in Houston all of his life and was a 30-year corporate detainee.

To live in the Hill Country is a dream come true. A bigger dream is to own a publication that brings our readers the events and people that make the Hill Country such a special place to live and visit.

Family has always been vitally important for us. We feel this change in the quality of life we are choosing for our children, Mackenzie and Luke, is right for many reasons.

Ralph has two children from an earlier life. Terri, 20, goes to Belmont University in Nashville, studying music business. She wants to work for a recording label or find and promote a band to stardom. If any one can, she will. She is already working for the university's record label.

Dave, 17 in December, lives in the Woodlands. He's a teenager who would make any parent proud. He never meets a stranger and his heart is as big and kind as anyone you will ever meet. Both Terri and Dave have been supportive in our move to the Hill Country.

We want to end this first column by saying we are honored to be a part of the Hill Country Sun. To know Allan and Madonna Kimball and to be honored in the adoption of their 15-year-old offspring, the Hill Country Sun, means more-much more-today than it did on June 2 when we first met.

We understand more now than we did then about the integrity Allan and Madonna bring to the magazine, the professionalism of their soul that they bring to every issue, and the love and devotion that they have for this publication. We know it and feel it. We will keep that alive for you.

We look forward to meeting so many interesting people and being a part of various Hill Country communities.
